PET vendor Positron has entered into a multiyear radioisotope supply agreement with iThemba Labs of Cape Town, South Africa.
Under the terms of the agreement, iThemba will provide Positron with raw material for strontium-82, which Positron will process into an active pharmaceutical ingredient at its facility in Lubbock, Texas, U.S. Positron expects to release radiopharmaceuticals using iThemba's strontium-82 in February 2014, the firm said.
This additional strontium-82 resource will enhance the industry's supply and increase the availability of radiopharmaceuticals, according to Positron. The company intends to make strontium-82 available to producers of rubidium-82 generators.
