Strong revenue growth in its imaging and therapy systems businesses lifted Siemens Healthcare to higher revenues in its second quarter of fiscal 2011 (end-March 31).
Second-quarter revenues increased 5% to 3.12 billion euros ($4.64 billion U.S.), compared with 2.97 billion euros ($4.42 billion U.S.) in the second quarter of fiscal 2010. Profit totaled 450 million euros ($670 million U.S.), compared with 469 million euros ($698 million U.S.) in the second quarter of the last fiscal year. Last year's second-quarter profit included a gain of 22 million euros ($33 million U.S.) from pension curtailment.
On a regional basis, Asia and Australia posted double-digit increases in both revenue and orders, highlighted by strong growth in China.
For the six-month period, revenues advanced to 6.22 billion euros ($9.26 billion U.S.), compared with 5.77 billion euros ($8.59 billion U.S.) in the same period of fiscal 2010. Profit slipped to 831 million euros ($1.24 billion U.S.), compared with 968 million euros ($1.44 billion U.S.) in the first half of fiscal 2010.
