European imaging market to surpass $5.6B by 2017

European medical imaging markets are forecasted to exceed $5.6 billion U.S. (3.8 billion euros) by 2017, according to a new report.

TriMark Publications has published a report that breaks down the European imaging market into the categories of CT, MRI, PET, SPECT, and ultrasound. The company found ultrasound was the largest subsegment of the market, amounting to $1.4 billion (9.5 million euros) of the $4.1 billion (2.8 billion euros) spent on marketing, manufacturing, and developing equipment and supplies in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., the Benelux countries, Scandinavia, and the rest of Europe in 2010. Germany's ultrasound market is the largest and is predicted to increase to $1.3 billion (8.9 million euros) by 2017.

The report examines companies such as Aloka, Analogic, BK Medical, Esaote International, Fonar, GE Healthcare, Hitachi Medical Systems, IMRIS, Philips Healthcare, Siemens Healthcare, Toshiba Medical Systems, and Zonare Medical Systems.
