Ultrasound developer SuperSonic Imagine is highlighting results from a large multicenter trial of its shear-wave elastography system for evaluating breast lesions.
The trial, which involved 17 U.S. and European sites and 1,000 cases, found high levels of reproducibility and accuracy, according to the Aix en Provence, France-based firm. In qualitative findings, 87% of consecutively repeated shear-wave elastography exams were judged to be similar, reasonably similar, or very similar in appearance, SuperSonic said.
Shear-wave elastography measurements yielded an intraobserver reproducibility rate of 0.91. In addition, the researchers found that adding two shear-wave elastography features to an ultrasound evaluation improved correct breast lesion classification rates to 87%, the company said.
A second phase of the trial, which is currently ongoing, will test the scientific model on an independent set of lesions, SuperSonic said.
