A total of 39 scans were performed on players during the football World Cup in Russia, and MRI was the most frequently used modality, according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the organizer of the tournament.
Medical staff performed 24 MRI scans (62% of total), along with seven x-rays (18%), six CT scans (15%), and two ultrasound exams (5%).
Clinicians at St. Petersburg performed the most scans (11 exams, 28%), followed by eight imaging exams (20%) in Moscow. The fixtures that took place in Ekaterinburg, Volgograd, and Kazan were perhaps the most tame because no radiology services were required at those sites.
