Toshiba Medical Systems has formed an ultrasound partnership with the Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy (TSFA), a sports foundation in the U.K.
Based at Newham College, TSFA has created a youth sport and life skills program in London and outer London areas to enable able-bodied and disabled youngsters to enjoy sport with a view to participating at higher levels. The collaboration between Toshiba and TSFA aims to promote the development of novel sports medicine and exercise-related applications for ultrasound scanner technology, according to the vendor.
The partnership also hopes to help TSFA medical staff and the community it serves develop an understanding of ultrasound scanner technology as a fundamental building block for the well-being and development of young athletes, Toshiba said.
Toshiba is providing an Aplio 500 premium cart-based system to TSFA. The TSFA team, in partnership with Toshiba, will develop scanner applications and best-practice guidelines regarding the early diagnosis, improved rehabilitation, and preventive care for young athletes as they travel through the foundation and academy programs, Toshiba said. The foundation currently has several athletes working toward qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Medical staff from one of the London hospitals in the East End of London will be on hand at the foundation to manage medical health initiatives using the scanner technology, Toshiba said.
