In an interview published on 3 January by SERAM, the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology, Dr. Cristina GarcĂa Villar has explained about her goals as the new head of the society's publications committee.
"We are publishing some excellent educational articles that can serve as a basis for the development of the scientific program," she said, adding that SERAM members can expect systematic reviews, meta-analyses, multicenter studies, and more opportunities for continuing education.
"This is only just the beginning," said GarcĂa Villar, who practices abdominal radiology at the Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar in Cadiz, Spain. "When I was offered the position of publications representative, the first thing I asked myself was: Would I have to give up my role as editor-in-chief of the journal RadiologĂa? If so, I would not have accepted because I feel that my time in RadiologĂa has not yet ended. I saw an opportunity to unify both worlds for a period of time."
Collaborating with other members of the publications committee, GarcĂa Villar plans to build on momentum created by previous endeavors, such as reviewer grants, mentoring for residents, credits for reviewing articles, growth in social networks, collaboration with the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) and the Salva Pedraza session platform, and more, she explained.
GarcĂa Villar, whose predecessor in the role at SERAM was Dr. Emilio Inarejos, said she would also like to revise the manual for radiodiagnostic technicians that dates back to 2016.
