It's Spain versus The Netherlands for the presidency of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) in 2027. Voting for the 2nd vice president's position will begin on 11 January, and the two candidates are Dr. Núria Bargalló, PhD, from Barcelona, Spain, and Prof. Mathias Prokop, PhD, from Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Bargalló is a neuroradiologist based in Barcelona, Spain. She is affiliated with the Imaging Diagnostic Center - Hospital Clínic Barcelona and is president of the Spanish Society of Neuroradiology. Prokop meanwhile specializes in body imaging via CT and AI. He is affiliated with the Department of Medical Imaging at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen and the Department of Radiology at UMC Groningen.
The Spanish Society of Radiology (SERAM) has already started to build support for Bargalló. It issued an announcement on its website on 3 January about her nomination for the post, and the society has urged members to support her campaign.
ESR full members in good standing as of 31 December 2023 will receive an invitation to vote through email from [email protected]. Polyas will be the online voting company used for this month's election. Members' votes will need to be cast by 24 January. The winner will preside over ECR 2027.
