ESR reveals candidates for 2025 elections

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has announced the details of its annual elections, which begin on 14 January. Three of the five posts to be filled are uncontested.

Prof. Marie-Pierre Revel, from Paris, is the sole candidate for the category of ESR second vice-president. This effectively means that she will become the ESR president in 2027-2028, succeeding Profs. Andrea Rockall (2024-2025, London), Minerva Becker (2025-2026, Geneva, Switzerland), and Mathias Prokop (2026-2027, Nijmegen, the Netherlands).

Revel, who is an expert in CT lung cancer screening and a former president of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI), was voted the winner of the Most Effective Radiology Educator award in the 2023 EuroMinnies. In a 2023 interview with AuntMinnieEurope.com, she said she became a thoracic radiologist because she had the chance to collaborate and do research with Prof. Guy Meyer, a specialist in pulmonary embolism. She also noted that her mentor in radiology, Prof. Guy Frija, advised her to invest in the ESR.

The other candidates who are facing no competition are Prof. Luís Curvo Semedo, from Aveiro in Portugal, and Prof. Ferdia Gallagher, from Cambridge in the U.K. Semedo will therefore take over from Prof. Dr. Christian Loewe as the ESR national societies committee chair, while Gallagher will succeed Prof. Dr. Marc Dewey as the publications committee chair.

In the category of the ESR education committee chair, Dr. Amelie Lutz, from Thurgau in Switzerland, is up against Prof. Annemiek Snoeckx, from Antwerp in Belgium.

The three candidates who are seeking to become the new ESR Research Committee Chair are Prof. Kincses Zsigmond Tamás, from Szeged in Hungary; Dr. Raquel Perez-Lopez, from Barcelona in Spain; and Dr. Helmut Prosch, from Vienna.

As was the case in 2024, the management of the ESR electronic elections will be handled by Polyas, a company specializing in secure online voting. All ESR full members in good standing as of 31 December 2024 are entitled to vote in the elections. They will receive an invitation to vote via e-mail from [email protected] on Tuesday 14 January, and they will have until 27 January to cast their votes.
