The Society of Radiographers (SOR) said it will strike for a second time in its pay dispute with the U.K. government.
The four-hour industrial action on Monday, 24 November will include diagnostic and radiotherapy professionals across the National Health Service (NHS). Members will then work to rule for the remainder of that week. Emergency care will continue during the strike but prearranged appointments and procedures may be affected, according to the society.
Radiographers in all four countries of the U.K. will participate, said SOR CEO Richard Evans. Members complain that pay has not kept pace with inflation, and the government rejected a recommended pay rise in England for the current year. Further, health secretary Jeremy Hunt has vowed there will be no pay increase in 2015, meaning the current pay freeze will have been imposed for four years out of five.
SOR members will do their best to minimize the effect on patients, but healthcare workers are at the point where they feel they have no alternative to strike action, Evans added.
