ECR 2025 will feature a program that will address global health equity and sustainability, according to a 19 November press release from the ESR.
Called "Imagers Fixing the World" -- a title inspired by the BBC podcast "People Fixing the World" -- the program will highlight imaging initiatives and research that address issues related to planetary health, the ESR said.
The initiative will be coordinated by ECR 2025 President Prof. Andrea Rockall and consultant radiologist Dr. Sarah Sheard, both of Imperial College Healthcare NHS in London. It will include sessions that range from "the revolutionary potential of AI in democratizing healthcare access, to the development of sustainable practices that reduce radiology's carbon footprint, to empowering teleservices in regions with limited medical infrastructure," the ESR noted.
"ECR 2025 will not only look at how radiology is impacting the ecological health of our planet, but also how it is affecting public health across the globe," Rockall said in the statement. "As society works towards the provision of equitable healthcare on a global scale, 'Imagers Fixing the World' is a powerful reminder that radiology has a critical role to play in advancing the well-being of people and planet."
She hopes the congress will offer an initial blueprint to radiologists, a roadmap on how they can make changes, featuring a wide variety of experts, innovations, and ongoing projects that are leading the way toward a more sustainable future in imaging.
The congress will take place in Vienna from 26 February to 2 March. More details on the program are available at myesr.org.
