The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has posted a tribute to ultrasound specialist and Indian radiologist Dr. Mukund Joshi, who died on 7 January at the age of 77.
In 2012, Joshi received honorary RSNA membership -- only the second Indian in 100 years to be given that honor. The next year, he became the first Indian ever to be awarded fellowship in the American College of Radiology, according to the ESR obituary.
Dr. Mukund Joshi. Image courtesy of ESR.Joshi produced numerous articles in national and international radiology journals and gave more than 500 lectures and CME courses, according to the ESR. He also served as editor in chief of the Indian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, and was a past president of both the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association and the Indian Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He was also president of the Indian Academy of Medical Sciences.
During his career, Joshi spent time working overseas at Herlev Hospital in Copenhagen and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. He also had spells at Sydney Square Breast Center in Australia; Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.; and the University of California, San Francisco in the U.S.
From 1997 to 2002, he was a member of the Expert Working Group on the Planning Commission of India for Supportive and Diagnostic Services at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Health-Care Levels. He also served on the board of directors for the Medical Imaging Partnership, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that seeks to provide access to imaging equipment, expertise, training, and encouragement to developing countries. He served on the RSNA's International Advisory Committee and was a member of the Advisory Committee on Education for the International Society of Radiology.
