The Lancet is dedicating its 2020 health campaign to improving the health of children and adolescents worldwide, according to an editorial published on 11 January in the journal.

"Now in 2020, we see an urgent need to make child and adolescent health and wellbeing the focus of a special campaign across our journals as progress made is stalling or reversing and new political and environmental realities are emerging," the journal's editorial staff wrote (Vol. 395:10218, p. 89).

To that end, the Lancet said it will highlight child and adolescent health throughout the year through milestone publications, events, and initiatives, including the following:

  • Partnering with the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund to kickstart a new global movement prioritizing children's health
  • Promoting the Commission on Women, Children, and Adolescent Health in China
  • Highlighting a series on physical activity, with new recommendations for adolescents
  • Launching a series on adolescent nutrition at the upcoming Tokyo Global Nutrition Summit

The journal plans to develop a special communications strategy to support its campaign and facilitate partnerships with as many other groups as possible.
