The European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) and the Heads of European Radiological protection Competent Authorities (HERCA) have published a report on their efforts to optimize CT dose for minimal radiation exposure and improved patient care.
In 2011, the two organizations made the following commitments:
- Characterize CT systems' standardized benchmarking
- Implement dose CT reduction measures
- Implement dose management and reporting tools
- Provide specific training curricula
Six years later, the industry has designed a reference phantom to quantify head and body low contrast detectability to address commitment; developed a number of dose reduction and management tools that are now available on modern CT scanners to address commitments; and helped CT manufacturers to develop and provide training on existing and new dose reduction techniques, COCIR and HERCA said.
