Congress of Radiology Ruhr marks 10th anniversary

The Congress of Radiology Ruhr (RKR) is celebrating its 10th anniversary and extolling its growth across Germany over the last decade.

The Congress currently has approximately 1,400 participants and more than 60 exhibitors, compared with some 700 participants in 2008 at the first annual medical imaging meeting.

Among the RKR's priorities is continuing education in areas such as interventional radiology and radiological diagnostics, said Congress President Dr. Dieter Liermann from the Ruhr University Bochum.

"Interventional radiology is developing in the treatment of vascular diseases such as stroke or peripheral arterial occlusive disease," Liermann said. "With the RKR, we want to pass on this knowledge to our colleagues so that the patient always receives the best possible treatment."

Numerous large clinics and practices are located in the Ruhr region, which has become known for health and medicine, added Dr. Werner Weber of the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum. It is one of the reasons RKR "fits in so well here and has developed into the successful congress it is today over the past 10 years."

This year will be the last time the RKR takes place in Bochum. Next year the conference will be held for the first time in the Dortmund Westfalenhalle under the direction of the German Roentgen Society and the Rheinisch-Westfälische Röntgengesellschaft.
