The European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) has created a guide that defines and standardizes the meaning of terms that clinicians use in their respective daily practices.
The ultimate goal of the EANM's Working Group on Nomenclature in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry is to eliminate any ambiguity or misinterpretation among the scientific community in conversations and discussions.
"Over recent years, within our community, there has been an increased incidence of incorrect usage of established scientific terms and conventions, and even the emergence of 'self-invented' terms," wrote members of the working group in the communiqué. "It is now crucial to have a period of open consultation with peers in the field in order to gain feedback about the proposed recommendations and to discuss any further issues requiring clarification."
The working group now is taking feedback to finalize the document.
