Radiation oncology vendor Elekta is collaborating with the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO) Cancer Foundation (ECF) to advance radiation therapy for cancer patients.
While radiation therapy is readily available in some European countries, such as Germany and France, patients in many parts of Eastern and Southeastern Europe do not have access to the same level of treatment services and equipment, according to Philip Poortmans, ECF president.
Elekta will become a vendor partner with the ESTRO Cancer Foundation, along with members of the healthcare industry, academia, and patient advocacy groups to ensure that patients can receive radiation therapy as part of their comprehensive cancer care.
The programs initially will focus on making patients, policymakers, and the general public aware of the benefits of radiation oncology through information based on scientific research from ESTRO and its partners.
