A record number of abstracts were submitted for ECR 2017, according to the European Society of Radiology (ESR).
The submission deadline closed on 18 October and 6,757 abstracts were submitted, 22.8% more than last year, according to ESR. The new record includes abstracts submitted for both scientific papers and oral presentations, which increased by 18% from last year, and electronic posters for the ECR's EPOS exhibition, which saw 27% more submissions.
The boost in submissions for EPOS in particular is attributed to the success of the Voice of EPOS sessions introduced at ECR 2016, ESR stated. These sessions give poster authors the opportunity to present their work in person at the congress.
Of special note are large increases in submissions from South America: Argentina saw a 163% increase, Brazil a 154% increase, Chile a 120% increase, and Colombia a 106% rise. Also, submissions from Mexico increased by 120%.
Several countries that traditionally submit numerous abstracts also saw an increase: Ireland (+59%), Italy (+49%), the U.K. (+33%), and China (+28%).
