The president of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) has provided members with a progress report on the changes the society has implemented recently.
In an open letter to members, Dr. Arturo Chiti, EANM president, detailed how the organization is conducting a major restructuring, in part, through the permanent appointments of CEOs for its congress, association management, and EANM Research Ltd. (EARL) activities.
Chiti, who also serves as the director of nuclear medicine at Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, Italy, said the changes will ensure that EARL will "properly serve the EANM community and that its activities will become self-sustaining."
In addition, EANM has created new committees to help coordinate efforts with other associations and societies to improve global collaboration.
This past year the European School of Nuclear Medicine (ESNM) has set its focus on educating students on all imaging modalities and therapeutic applications. The European School on Multimodality Imaging and Therapy (ESMIT) also is on track for future progress, according to the letter.
"The young community has also been given new opportunities for growth and we are confident that the new structure will help EANM to successfully integrate new forces in the association," he wrote.
Chiti added the EANM is in "good financial shape, has a modernized structure that complies with all the legal and tax requirements, and has great potential to keep growing."
The EANM is preparing for its board elections in Barcelona, Spain, in October, which will include votes for president-elect and committee coordinator for 2017-2018.
