Ultrasound developer SonoSite has received the CE Mark for its X-Porte ultrasound kiosk for point-of-care ultrasound scanning.
X-Porte is designed to deliver point-of-care ultrasound to a broad range of users, from novice to advanced, according to the company. It includes visual learning guides with 3D animations that can be used simultaneously with live scanning, giving any member of the healthcare team -- nurses, mid-level providers, and even administrators -- access to high-performance ultrasound visualization, SonoSite said.
X-Porte is based on a new SonoSite imaging technology called Extreme Definition Imaging (XDI). XDI reduces visual clutter from side-lobe artifacts that affect all ultrasound scanners, resulting in images of higher resolution, the company said.
The training modules on X-Porte were developed by a team led by Dr. Scott Dulchavsky, chair of surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, who has developed medical training modules for astronauts. The kiosk's interface uses multitouch gesture-driven commands similar to those found in the consumer world, the company said.
X-Porte is available in stationary or detachable-use models, and the system's ultrasound core can be detached from the unit. X-Porte is pending 510(k) clearance and is not yet available in the U.S.
