Nick Screaton becomes new BIR president

Dr. Nick Screaton, a consultant cardiothoracic radiologist at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, has been inaugurated as president of the British Institute of Radiology (BIR). Screaton previously served as vice president of publishing and a trustee.

Screaton has served terms as a standing member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines’ updates and NICE Quality Standards Advisory committees. He was president of the British Society of Thoracic Imaging between 2009 and 2013, a member of the Faculty Board of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) between 2015 and 2019, and an RCR Council Member from 2019 to 2022. He has also served as a council member of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging since 2017 and became secretary in 2022.

His subspecialty interests include pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung diseases, airway diseases, and lung cancer screening.
