The Philips Foundation and Rad-Aid International recently entered into a multiyear partnership that aims to increase access to ultrasound services for 50 million people in low- and middle-income countries.

This includes access to virtual care in hard-to-reach areas by deploying hundreds of ultrasound devices that allow for remote healthcare. The two organizations will set up programs in 10 countries to train health workers and specialists, with training including real-time distance education and simulated procedure demonstrations, the organizations said.

They added that experiences from phase-I deployment of these services will help the two parties create new educational strategies for second-phase deployment. Deployment will take place over multiple years in countries within Africa, Asia, North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
