3D printing firm Isinnova used 3D printing technology to provide a hospital in Brescia, Italy, with vital medical supplies needed to treat 250 patients infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to a 16 March article from the BBC.
Responding to a call for help, the firm installed a 3D printer at the hospital and created 3D-printed respiratory valves for COVID-19 patients in intensive care requiring respiratory aid. The 3D-printed valves cost less than 1 euro each to produce.
Isinnova has since begun collaborating with a separate 3D printing company, Lonati, to meet the growing demand for respiratory valves, the BBC noted.
