Ultrasound developer Fujifilm SonoSite has donated two M-Turbo point-of-care ultrasound systems to the sea rescue organization Proactiva Open Arms, based in Badalona, Spain.
The devices will be used to support efforts to rescue refugees at sea. Proactiva Open Arms picks up as many as 400 people per rescue, according to the organization, which has a doctor and nurse on board on each of its three boats with other volunteers.
The ultrasound systems will be used for abdominal scanning, particularly for pregnancies, diagnosing and monitoring pneumonia, and to evaluate traumatic injuries.
