Proton therapy manufacturer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) said it has signed a contract with the Children's Cancer Hospital Foundation Egypt to install a ProteusONE compact proton therapy system at Cairo's Hospital 57357.
The agreement, valued at 35 million to 45 million euros, covers delivery of a ProteusONE system with the latest generation pencil beam scanning, isocenter volumetric imaging (cone beam CT) capabilities, and a long-term maintenance agreement. The hospital plans to start treating patients by 2020. The deal represents IBA's 19th installation of the compact single-room proton therapy system and the first-ever unit in Africa, according to the company.
