Philips Healthcare and Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands have introduced a mobile app with an integrated online virtual community for patients with diabetes.
Built on Philips' cloud-based HealthSuite digital platform and Salesforce's engagement platform, the mobile app and integrated online virtual community connect consumers to healthcare providers and enables sharing of personal health data and clinical data, according to the vendor. It collects and connects data from electronic medical records, multiple personal health devices such as wireless glucose meters or activity monitors, and patient self-reported data.
Patients and healthcare professionals can interact via private messaging or shared posts. While there isn't an image sharing function as of yet, a study could be shared via the secure chat function as a JPEG image, according to a Philips spokesperson.
The prototype is expected to be available for evaluation in limited markets before the end of the year and the company plans to introduce similar offerings addressing other chronic conditions.
