Medical imaging software developer SyntheticMR said it has installed its SyMRI Neuro software at Linköping University Hospital in Sweden to improve follow-up of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).
With results based on MRI data, SyMRI enables clinicians to follow up on brain atrophy via automatic calculation of brain parenchymal function. After the initial pilot project, the company plans to put SyMRI into clinical use in the Östergötland region, the company said.
The application relies on MRI's strength in visualizing soft tissues to aid in the monitoring of MS, the company stated. MS patients can develop brain atrophy, or a loss of brain tissue. SyMRI Neuro generates a quantitative measure of brain atrophy by calculating brain parenchymal function automatically, enabling objective monitoring of disease development.
