Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems has been selected to equip and service two new national proton therapy centers in England.
Varian will install its ProBeam proton therapy system at two three-room centers to be constructed in London and Manchester. The contract is valued at up to 80 million pounds (112 million euros).
Varian said it expects to close on the contract and book the equipment portion of the order in the summer.
Equipment installation is expected to take place beginning in August 2017, with patient treatments expected to begin in 2018. The U.K.'s two national proton therapy centers will be located at the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust in London and the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.
