Cambridge Consultants has introduced Chimaera, a surgical tool that uses preoperative CT data to produce 3D images of areas being operated on.
Chimaera combines Oculus Rift 3D technology, Microsoft's Kinect motion sensor technology, and Google Glass to enable surgeons to identify and highlight critical structures such as nerves and blood vessels, according to the vendor. They can then define a safe implantation route.
Later during surgery, the surgeon can quickly see the actual view from the surgical tool superimposed on the operative plan in order to identify his or her precise location at any time, the company said.
