Mobile health device market to bloom this decade

Smartphone interfaces from Samsung and Apple will help propel the global healthcare accessory hardware market to approximately 4 billion euros in revenue by 2019, according to a new report from market research firm Juniper Research.

The report speculates that the availability of healthcare smartphone platforms will encourage device manufacturers to launch increasingly sophisticated mobile health products, such as blood pressure cuffs, oximeters for diabetes, and monitors for sleep apnea.

The study also noted that Apple's HealthKit and Samsung's SAMI (Samsung Architecture for Multimodal Interactions) will drive consumer digital health and subsequently promote remote patient monitoring devices.
