Fonar secures MRI installation in London

MRI vendor Fonar has installed of one of its upright MRI systems at an imaging facility in London.

Fonar's Upright Multi-Position MRI system was installed at Medserena Upright MRI Centre in the Kensington district of London. The center opened in May, and the installation was commemorated at a 9 July event attended by Fonar founder Dr. Raymond Damadian and Dr. Francis W. Smith, clinical director of the Medserena center.

Smith was involved in the world's first clinical trial of MRI in 1980 and the first diagnostic MRI service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 1981, according to Fonar. He has been researching the use of MRI on patients in weight-bearing positions for the past 12 years, particularly for evaluating the spine and weight-bearing joints.
