Esaote sales dip, but earnings rise in 2012

A decline in sales in its home market of Italy contributed to a slight drop in revenues for Esaote in 2012, but profit still increased for the Italian ultrasound and MRI developer.

For the year, Esaote had consolidated sales of 325.3 million euros, down 0.9% from the 328.2 million euros reported in 2011. Sales in Italy dropped by 17%, but international sales climbed 7% to reach 221 million euros.

Notably, sales increased by 20% in the People's Republic of China and by 14% in the U.S. Esaote had 2012 earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of 47.3 million euros, up from 36.6 million euros in 2011.
