Radiation therapy firm RaySearch Laboratories has signed a deal with GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung of Germany to license techniques for calculating radiobiological effective doses in ion beam treatments.
GSI has developed the local effect model (LEM) method for calculating relative biological effectiveness during irradiation with therapeutic carbon ion beams, according to RaySearch. The LEM and RaySearch algorithms for calculating dose will be built into the RayStation treatment planning system's module for treatment plan optimization.
