The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is creating a task force on cardiovascular disease (CVD) data standardization so that information from different registries can be compared more usefully.
The ESC plans to collaborate with the PAtient REgistries iNiTiative (PARENT) Joint Action to create an inventory of registries to help the cardiology community find existing data and avoid duplication.
The ESC task force on CVD data standardization also will build on Cardiology Audit and Registration Data Standards (CARDS). ESC contributed to CARDS, which is designed to standardize definitions used in the collection of CVD data and resulted in three datasets for three subspecialties of cardiology: percutaneous coronary intervention, clinical electrophysiology, and acute coronary syndromes.
