RaySearch receives large Austrian order from MedAustron

Radiation therapy firm RaySearch Laboratories has received an order from MedAustron in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, for its RayStation treatment planning station.

Currently in the build-up phase, MedAustron is an interdisciplinary national Austrian center that will specialize in cancer treatment with ions, research and development of this new therapy, and nonclinical research with ion and proton radiation. Up to 1,400 patients are expected to be treated each year using protons and carbon ion radiation when the center is completed in 2015, according to RaySearch.

The RayStation order, the largest received to date by the company, has a value of 3.5 million euros ($4.6 million U.S.) for the license fees. RaySearch will also receive maintenance fees for as long as the system remains clinically operational, the firm said.
