Healthcare risk management software firm Datix announced that National Health Service (NHS) Grampian, one of the 10 principal health boards in Scotland, has deployed its patient safety software to manage incident reporting, complaints, safety alerts, risks, claims, and requests for information.
NHS Grampian provides healthcare services to more than 500,000 individuals living in northeast Scotland. It operates 18 community hospitals and six specialized hospitals, as well as 84 general practice clinics. It's supported by a staff of approximately 17,000.
Datix initially installed an incident reporting system at Grampian NHS in April 2005. The additional software expedites the reporting of severe incidents, with automatic email notifications to senior managers, including lead clinicians, general managers, the head of the clinical governance and risk management unit, and the chief operating officer.
By identifying trends and spotting where similar risks occur in clinical sectors, managers may be able to initiate contingency planning and problem resolution more rapidly, potentially improving quality assurance programs, increasing patient safety, and reducing costs, according to the company. The health board is using the consolidated incidents and inquires to create "knowledge reports," which it regularly disseminates to the entire NHS Grampian organization.
