Biomedical device company Biotronik of Berlin announced that its Lumax 740 implantable cardiac defibrillator has received CE Mark approval, and already is being used in European hospitals.
This cardiac device for patients with tachyarrhythmias, or abnormally fast heart rhythms, enables them to safely have MRI exams. Patients with an implantable cardiac defibrillator will have a 50% to 75% probability of having an MRI exam ordered in the lifetime of the device, according to Biotronik.
Patients at nine hospitals, seven in Germany and one each in Austria and Italy, have already become recipients of the Lumax 740.
