The research group of Philips Healthcare and Düsseldorf University Hospital were awarded a Medica Excellence Award in the category of Cooperation and Partnership with Industry.
The award-winning project focuses on the treatment of heart valve defects through minimally invasive catheter interventions by a hybrid imaging technique that uses up to four different imaging methods (angiography, MRI, 3D echocardiography, and CT) to generate a patient-specific 3D model of the heart. This new approach supports minimally invasive methods of treating heart valve defects by providing comprehensive information about the patient's heart. The approach is expected to reduce risks and to increase safety of these complex valve procedures.
The prize was awarded at this week's trade show on behalf of Germany's Federal Health Minister, Daniel Bahr.
