Carestream Health has started a major PACS upgrade program at 34 hospitals in Scotland.
Carestream will replace the hospitals' existing hardware with new workstations configured with the company's Carestream Vue PACS V11 software. In addition, it will implement new data compression, storage, and retention plans in line with the latest guidance from the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists. This is expected to significantly reduce storage requirements and operational costs, according to the company.
The new architecture provides significant enhancements in information sharing by consolidating data into a global workflow with a global worklist. All authorized users will have the ability to view on-demand a patient's entire imaging history from anywhere in Scotland.
The company completed its initial PACS installation in 2009. The upgrade is scheduled for completion in November 2012.
