Toshiba Medical Systems plans to introduce new models in its Aplio line of ultrasound scanners at the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) congress, which begins in Vienna on Friday 26 August.
The Aplio 300, 400, and 500 scanners offer an extensive range of clinical innovations, including Fly Thru and Smart Fusion features, according to the company.
The Fly Thru feature utilizes perspective rendering to virtually enter a volume dataset and explore cavities, ducts, and vessels from the inside and in 3D. It uses perspective projection to display a given structure, emphasizing the near over the far field much like in optical endoscopy.
Smart Fusion is a navigation tool that enables different imaging modalities onscreen to be combined in real-time, reading 3D DICOM datasets from imaging modalities such as CT and MRI. A position sensor with submillimeter accuracy is attached to the transducer shaft to provide free access during interventions. Matching the transducer position with a preacquired 3D dataset can be performed in a two-step process, and the tool is designed to work within a daily routine, according to Toshiba.
