Dear PACS Insider,
Imaging informatics technology and PACS do not dominate the exhibition halls of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) as they do at the RSNA show, but it was apparent this year at ECR that changes were afoot. As at the RSNA 2011 meeting, dominant themes at ECR 2012 concerned vendor-neutral cloud-based archives and the proliferation of access to PACS with mobile phones and tablet computers.
If you didn't attend ECR, contributing writer John Bonner provides an update of the innovations shown by imaging informatics vendors. Click here to learn more. And Theo Ahadome, InMedica's lead market analyst for healthcare IT, predicts the next imaging informatics market segment opportunities for them in this article.
Our regular guest columnist Dr. Neelam Dugar discusses the standards being developed to make vendor-neutral archives (VNAs) possible. She predicts that VNAs have the potential to transform global healthcare IT, but how rapidly will vendors adopt the standards? Read her thought-provoking column here.
How should radiology IT be managed efficiently and cost-effectively? A case was made at ECR that internal support was very effective, as described by staff writer Erik L. Ridley. But who should support the in-house administrators? Customer user groups are one way to disseminate information, but in Kuwait, RIS/PACS administrators have formed a multivendor liaison. Learn what they've accomplished in seven years by clicking here.
