SPIE to launch Journal of Medical Imaging

International optics and engineering society SPIE is planning to launch the Journal of Medical Imaging in 2014.

The new journal will cover fundamental and translational research and applications focused on photonics in medical imaging, the society said. The scope of JMI initially will mirror that of the annual SPIE Medical Imaging conference, with topics including imaging physics; tomographic reconstruction algorithms, such as for CT and MRI; image processing; computer-aided diagnosis; visualization and modeling; and image perception and observer performance; among other subjects.

The editor in chief of the new journal is Maryellen Giger, PhD, professor of radiology and physics at the University of Chicago. Authors are invited to submit articles beginning in October, with publication to begin in early 2014. The journal will be published in print quarterly and online in the SPIE Digital Library.
