Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
Consensus is growing that the 3D visualization enabled by digital breast tomosynthesis can provide valuable clinical information. Whereas conventional mammography relies on the absorption of x-rays from a stationary tube to create a 2D projected image, digital tomosynthesis uses a moving x-ray source to generate 3D images.
The technique is now widely seen as a promising adjunct to 2D mammography, but most experts also agree that the clinical efficacy of digital breast tomosynthesis requires further investigation to help define the situations best served by this tool.
Top researchers from the U.K. and Sweden have completed an important study in this area, and they've published their findings in Radiology. Visit our Women's Health Digital Community or click here.
The University Medical Center Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany, received widespread media attention last year when it was recognized by HIMSS Analytics Europe for achieving stage 7 of the organization's Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model. We've taken a closer look at the hospital's IT strategy. Get the story here.
Public hospitals in Paris also have achieved notable success in the digital arena, and radiologist Dr. Daniel Reizine has been a central figure in the PACS implementation process. He reveals all this week in a question-and-answer interview in our PACS Digital Community. Click here for the details.
Spanish authors have found that CT colonography (CTC) without cathartic bowel preparation and iodinated agents for fecal tagging can produce good results compared with those obtained using conventional preparation with laxatives. They think this method could improve the acceptance of CTC for colorectal cancer screening. Go to our CT Digital Community, or click here.
Pediatric CT continues to be a challenging area, but dose concerns should not prevent necessary examinations from going ahead. Dr. Erich Sorantin, a professor at the Medical University of Graz in Austria, has extensive experience in this field. Click here for his tips and tricks.
