Dear Digital X-Ray Insider,

For acute abdominal pain, should radiography now be superseded by other imaging modalities in emergency cases? This important question was the focus of new research presented at the recent U.K. Radiological Congress (UKRC) in Liverpool.

The authors, who studied 198 adults over a four-month period, have some interesting findings, and you won't want to miss them. Get the details by clicking here.

Effective communication of radiation risk is essential to ensure patient safety, and this issue was also addressed during UKRC 2015. An influential group from the Queen's Medical Centre Campus at Nottingham University Hospitals gave some practical tips in this area, and you can get them here.

The German Radiological Society (DRG) purchased the birthplace of Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, the inventor of x-rays, in 2011. The DRG has linked up with the German Roentgen Museum, and their bold plan to restore the building is underway. Our history columnist, Dr. Adrian Thomas, has paid a visit, and to read his observations, you should click here.

In cases of suspected breast cancer, digital radiography (DR) may be a better tool than computed radiography (CR). In a new study, DR performed significantly better than CR for identifying calcification clusters and noncalcification lesions, and the authors think the time has come for a close examination of the facts.
