Week in Review: Tribute to Jan Bosmans | Award for MSK team in Madrid | Statement on Radiology AI

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

A lively-minded original thinker and free spirit: This description applied to Dr. Jan Bosmans, PhD. As shown by his extremely varied career path, he was never the type of person to follow the safe, conventional route.

Jan was an active editorial advisor to AuntMinnieEurope.com, and he was always very happy to give us his time and opinion. Two of his closest friends and colleagues, Profs. Paul Parizel and Erik Ranschaert, have written a moving tribute to Jan. He was a great communicator and a true luminary, and he's a huge loss to the world of radiology.

Axial spondyloarthritis is a painful, chronic type of arthritis that mainly affects the joints of the spine and tends to present in young people in the form of chronic back pain. Musculoskeletal radiologists from Madrid have shared their experiences and clinical images relating to this condition. They won a cum laude award at RSNA 2023, so their work is worth checking out.

Meanwhile, the motoring conviction of radiologist Dr. Philip Pasfield has been big news in Australia over the past week or so. More than anything, the case appears to show the overriding importance of getting help with addiction illnesses.

Our series of onsite video interviews from Berlin began on Monday. Liana Gruenberg met with former ESR president Prof. Bernd Hamm to learn about his plans and priorities at European Radiology.

A significant international statement on radiology AI was published this week. Five major societies came together to produce the statement, and the ESR's Prof. Adrian Brady was the lead author.
