Radiographers across England are preparing to take strike action for a second time, after talks between government ministers and the Society of Radiographers (SoR) proved unsuccessful, the society said.
A 24-hour strike action is planned for 37 National Health Service hospital trusts in England, according to the SoR. These trusts include Nottingham University Hospitals, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, and East Suffolk and North Essex.
The U.K. government has stated it will open new community diagnostic centers to cut cancer waiting lists -- an action that requires a strong radiography workforce, said Dean Rogers, SoR director of industrial strategy in a statement released by the society on 8 September.
"Ministers ... [refused] even to discuss ways to make the profession more attractive to its current workforce or to new recruits," he said. Nothing in the discussion gave us confidence that the government would be willing to move from its current position ... with regret, we feel we have no choice but to take further strike action."
