The European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR) has expressed its support for the Ukrainian people and radiological community in the midst of the Russian invasion of their country.
"We are appalled and shocked by the situation in Ukraine in this unprovoked attack on human lives and values," said ESSR President Dr. Eva Llopis in a letter to its members. "Consequently, we would like to state our strong disagreement with this situation to those that are responsible, and express our full support to the Ukrainians."
Llopis noted that the society's statement is against the politics of the Russian government, not against their Russian scientific colleagues and members of the ESSR. She also announced initiatives for the radiological community in Ukraine, such as special outreach programs and travel grants to ensure access to education.
"Our thoughts and hearts are with the Ukrainian people and all those impacted by this devastating event," Llopis said.
