The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) has released a free podcast about the impact of COVID-19 on corticosteroid injection services.
The podcast features an interview with the co-authors of a recent article published in the British Journal of Radiology based on a national survey of members of the British Society of Skeletal Radiologists (BSSR).
According to one of the authors, musculoskeletal radiologist Dr. Danoob Dalili, there has been "a significant increase in the patient waiting times at many (National Health Service) Trusts and this is likely to be exacerbated by the increased orthopaedic waiting times as patients are now waiting longer ... so finding a way to treat these patients who will often be suffering from significant pain and disability, will present a challenge for this specialty over the coming years."
In the podcast, Dalili and co-authors Dr. Daniel Fascia, and Dr. David McKean review the key BSSR survey findings, as well as discussing topics such as why U.K. guidelines cautioned against the use of corticosteroids during the pandemic and how knowledge has developed over the course of the pandemic. They also offer their thoughts on how the healthcare system will recover over the next few years.
