Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom has inked a deal to build a new facility for radiopharmaceutical production in Serbia within the next three years.
A site has not been chosen for the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST), but plans are in place to begin implementing the project as early as next year, according to Rosatom officials. The facility primarily will produce radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer.
The CNST will put Serbia back on the map of European countries that have a base for scientific research in nuclear technology, said Serbian Minister of Innovation and Technology Development Nenad Popovic, in a news release. Serbia is already receiving requests from neighboring countries that would like to use the capacities of the center and our scientists, he added.
The deal follows an intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia and Serbia in 2019.
