Week in Review: What angry patients say about radiologists | Is U.K. radiology facing a mass exodus? | Drive for standardization in prostate MRI

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Let's admit it, we all love reading a bad review -- provided it's not written about us, of course ...

In this week's top article, you can look at a set of comments made by 10 patients who were unhappy about their radiologist. It's not clear whether the criticism was justified, but the reviews contain an overriding message for radiology: Communicate better and show more compassion.

On Monday, 3 May, an article appeared in a respected U.K. daily newspaper, the Guardian, about a mass exodus of doctors from the National Health Service (NHS). The Royal College of Radiologists' workforce census published on 28 April tells a different story, and there's no indication yet that radiologists are leaving the NHS en masse. The next few months are likely to prove critical for U.K. radiology.

One of the major issues in prostate MRI is the lack of standardization. Technical guidelines exist, but many sites still struggle to create a fully diagnostic protocol. In new research, authors from a network of London hospitals have described how they addressed this problem. Their practical approach and promising results deserve close scrutiny. Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make steady progress in musculoskeletal imaging. A Dutch team has described how an algorithm was able to accurately detect scaphoid fractures on radiographs, potentially speeding up diagnosis of these troublesome injuries.
